Our new paper together with several famous authors in modeling the laser-matter interaction was just published online in MRS Bulletin (impact factor 6.06). And we are proud to see that it actually made the cover of the journal. :o)

Promoting the extended SPP theory at the 6th LIPSS workshop in Heraklion (Crete)
The 6th international LIPSS (Laser Induced Perodic Surface Structures) workshop was held in FORTH University of Heraklion, in Crete.
The latest developments of the theory on Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPP) adapted for laser ablation conditions were presented in an invited talk, after 1st publication of the project appeared online. The future open-source tool for performing predictions of surface nanostructuring by lasers was promoted.
An abstract of the presented work is available on the BAM repository.
Participation to Octopus developer’s meeting 2016
I attended the Octopus Developer Meeting 2016, held in Max Planck Institute for Structure and Dynamics of Matter (Hamburg), and was proposed to give an oral presentation.
More details are available there.
2 weeks of training at the Benasque TD-DFT school
The “Benasque school of physics” hosts famous physics school all along the year. This year, I could attend to the “Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory: Prospects and Application” for a duration of 2 weeks. The school is composed of 1 week of lessons, including the week-end, and one week of workshop to get a view on the latest developments in the field of TD-DFT and beyond.
See the website for more information.

Roger Kelly award obtained at “Lasers in Materials Science” school of Venice, Italy.
On July 10, 2016, Dr. Thibault J.-Y. Derrien and Dr. Yoann Levy travelled to Venice, Italy for the 5th International School “Lasers in Materials Science” on the Isola de San Servolo, home to Venice International University.
The school was directed by Maria Dinescu (National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics, Bucharest, Romania), David B. Geohegan (Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA), Antonio Miotello (Trento University, Italy), and Paolo M. Ossi (Politecnico di Milano, Italy). The School provided undergraduate students, PhD students and young research scientists with a wide opportunity to learn on fundamental roots of the interactions of laser light with different materials that are usually missed in traditional programs. The attendees were offered with 18 lectures from world-leading scientists, ranging from fundamentals of laser-matter interaction to scientific and industrial applications in various fields including new material production and bio-medicine.
One of the lectures was given by the RP4 Leader Nadezhda Bulgakova. The school also provided excellent opportunities of interactions and establishing cooperation with other researchers and colleagues working in similar, yet diverging fields.
Yoann presented work on Temperature relaxation after modulated absorption of femtosecond laser pulse in gold and fused silica in the LIPSS formation regime and Thibault presented work on the Role of electron-hole pair dynamics in modification of silicon upon femtosecond laser irradiation.
For his excellent work and presentation, Thibault Derrien was awarded the 2nd place among “Rising Stars” (Third Year PhD and Post-doc researchers) in the schools poster competition in memory of Prof. Roger Kelly.
Invited at the French-Czech “Young Talented Scientists” forum, Prague

I was invited by the French Institute of Prague to attend and present my works at the “Young Talented Scientists” forum, which was held at the French Embassy of Czech Republic, on the 21st of June 2016, Prague.
A lunch with the French Ambassador in Czech Republic, Jean-Pierre Asvazadouria, and a debate on the mobility of researchers with the Nobel Laureate of Chemistry Jean-Marie Lehn was organized at the French Embassy.
The main outcome was to prepare advises to communicate with both French and Czech governments to improve the scientific mobility programs between the two countries.
Official report and pictures can be found on the website of the French Embassy.
HERAEUS Workshop – Les Houches
I was selected to attend the “Attosecond meets Plasmonics” HERAEUS Workshop, held in Ecole de Physique des Houches.
A poster detailing the current development of the “Flirt-1D” simulation code was presented.
